Privacy Policy
This policy explains what information the Bhagavad Gita app ("the app") handles on Android and iOS. The app is made by Novoverse ("we", "us"). In short: the app collects no personal information such as your name, email or what you read and search for. Its only network use is to show ads through Google AdMob, to count anonymous usage through Firebase Analytics (which you can turn off), and to process the optional "Remove ads" purchase through Google Play.
What the app stores on your device
All verses, translations and commentaries are bundled inside the app, so it works fully offline. The app keeps the following only on your device:
- your bookmarks and your last-read verse,
- your recent searches,
- your reading settings (text size, theme, content language and which sections to show),
- your daily reminder setting and time, and whether you bought "Remove ads".
This information is never sent to us or anyone else, apart from the anonymous usage events described under Usage statistics below (for example, that a setting was changed). There are no accounts and no sign-in. Uninstalling the app or clearing its data deletes all of it.
Ads (Google AdMob)
The app is free and shows ads through Google AdMob. Ads never appear inside the scripture text. To serve and measure ads and to prevent fraud, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect:
- your device's advertising ID (Android advertising ID, or IDFA on iOS if you allow tracking),
- your IP address and approximate location derived from it,
- device and app information, such as model, operating system and app version,
- how you interact with ads, such as views and taps.
Google handles this data under its own policies. See How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services and the Google Privacy Policy. We don't receive this data in a form that identifies you, and we don't sell personal information.
Usage statistics (Firebase Analytics)
To learn which parts of the app are used, the app sends anonymous usage events to Google Firebase Analytics, such as which screens are opened, which chapter was opened, that a verse was bookmarked, whether a search found results, changes to settings and to the reminder, and the steps of the "Remove ads" purchase. It never sends the text of your searches, the verses you read, or your bookmarks.
Along with these events, Firebase collects an app instance ID (a random identifier created for this installation), device and app information such as model, operating system and app version, and an approximate location derived from your IP address. The app turns off Firebase's collection of your advertising ID and ad-personalization signals, so analytics data isn't used to personalize ads.
You can turn this off at any time in the app under Library → ⋮ menu → Share usage statistics. In the EEA, UK and Switzerland it is off unless you turn it on there yourself, and it also stays off until the app knows whether these rules apply to you. Google handles this data under the Google Privacy Policy; see also Privacy and Security in Firebase.
"Remove ads" purchase
You can remove ads with a one-time in-app purchase. Payment is handled entirely by Google Play (or the App Store on iOS); we never see your payment details. The app only learns whether "Remove ads" was bought, stores that on your device, and checks your store purchase history on launch so the purchase can be restored after a reinstall or on a new device (Library → ⋮ menu → Restore purchases). The store's handling of your purchase is covered by the Google Privacy Policy (or Apple's privacy policy on iOS).
Daily reminder
If you turn on the daily reading reminder, the app schedules a notification on your device at the time you choose. It needs the notification permission and, for on-time delivery on Android, the "Alarms & reminders" permission; both are asked for only when you turn the reminder on. Nothing about the reminder leaves your device.
Your choices about ads
- EEA, UK and Switzerland: on first launch the app asks for your consent to personalized ads. If you decline, you'll see non-personalized ads. You can change your choice at any time in the app under Reading settings → Ad privacy choices.
- iOS: the app asks for permission to track through Apple's App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you choose "Ask App Not to Track", your IDFA isn't shared. You can change this under Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID under Settings → Privacy → Ads (on some devices Settings → Google → Ads).
You can also remove ads completely with the one-time "Remove ads" purchase. Reading never depends on any of these choices.
Children
The app is a general-audience reading app and is not directed at children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Security
The app doesn't transmit your bookmarks, searches or settings anywhere. Ad, analytics and purchase traffic is handled by Google's SDKs and the store over encrypted connections.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
